my guess is a coup in Zimbabwe starts... well started tonight

Don't you never let no woman rule your mind
Lord, she'll leave you troubled, worried all the time

some true words.

the head of the Air Force, Perence Shiri was just shot (not dead... yet?) in what seems to be an assassination attempt. He's a very close friend and ally to Mr. Robert Mugabe (current president and all around asshole). My guess is that a lot is going to happen in the next 24/36 hours.
Also, there is a huge outbreak of Cholera in the country that has killed around 500 people in about a week. Mugabe said it was the UK contaminating the water but the bacteria(?) has been eradicated from the country and only a "handful" of people have died.

Joseph Kony, your days are numbered

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7782649.stm

For those who don't know, Joseph Kony is the head of the Lord's Resistance Army based in Northern Uganda. For over 20 years he has abducted children from their homes in rural villages and brainwashed them into being fighters for his rebel movement. He forces boys to rape their sisters and gets them addicted to drugs that he and his high officers provide for the boys.
Joseph Kony, I know you'll be rotting in hell soon enough.

Tonight

Was fantastic. I played football with my dudes, went home and ate dinner. Emrah called me and told me to come over to their apartment, so I did. Meeting Emrah, Azamat and Hasan has truly been the highlight of my IU experience. outstanding discussions on everything from football to spirituality. My stomach was having some serious problems... no idea what was up. I kept rumbling and and it kind of sounded like some crazy bowel movements were going on... but alas my drawers are still clean.
I'll probably give those dudes a call tomorrow. Maybe a drive up to Indy to see Slumdog Millionaire?

Slumdogging

Not much to report...
Saw Slumdog Millionaire, based off of the book Q and A by Vikas Swarup, on Saturday night. Movie of the year...? I think so. Total heart wrencher. Also a movie that doesn't depict Muslims as terrorist/heartless/backwards! Who would have thought?
Overall grade: A. Good luck finding anything you don't like about this film.
Anyways, here are some screenshots from the film

Here is a young Jamal. The child actors in this were beyond outstanding. I was bummed after the transition from little kids to older kids. Give me an entire movie/book

An older Jamal and Latika at the train station.

if you don't get my point here... go see this movie, now.

DAM getting up in the world.

Monday, December 1, 2008

wow this is nerdy

i know a lot of people out there, especially those who spend a lot of time on the internet are sneaker nerds. i am not one of those people. my feet only touch vans and adidas (my indoor boots are nike and my outdoor are diadora, but you gotta buy what's cheap and is fly), but i'm starting to feel the adidas selection much more these days. the classic vans and authentics are the only way to go vans wise, but adidas and pulling some wicked shit these days.
the Samba 2's are fucking WILD. Take your classic black Samba. Black leather with black suede and the white three stripes with the gold lettering and the white and black label on the top of the tongue. Now the Samba 2's... dump the white stripes and and replace them with some serious blacker than black stripes and a black and hold label on the tongue... holy shit they look unbelievable.

The white Samba 2's are also quite fresh. You've got the white base of a Samba with cream stripes and cream for suede. they're looking pretty nice...

Other Sambas I've been into are the White Classics
The Samba 2 Austria

and the Samba Millennium French
,

and the Argentinean "

I'm probably going to try and grab a few of these within the next few months.

thank you jake burns

Don't believe them
Don't believe them
Question everything you're told
Just take a look around you
At the bitterness and spite
Why can't we take over and try to put it right

thanksgiving
Mikey came home
Saw my Grandmother for the first time after my grandfather died
Ate a lot of pizza
Saw IU beat Michigan 3 nill in the freezing cold.
Saw Ashley and AJ

school starts back up tomorrow, and we only have two or three weeks left of the semester. pretty fucking wild.

The entire situation in India sucks and it's going to be more difficult for Muslims in India, and around the world.

I never really liked this movie, but what an awesome scene

We Are Dead Stop

from a different angle and a new clip from the last Dead Stop show. the audio quality is sub par but Lino's intensity makes Henry Rollins look weak.

this is the only video of this song and it's not studio recorded anywhere... i have a good version from a live show he (Cory Branan) did with Ben Nichols in the summer of '07...

this is probably the best version of this song i've found...

Monday, November 17, 2008

so i'm sitting outside my classroom waiting for a review session in about an hour just wasting time before and a classroom door next to where i'm sitting is open and they're watching "Thank You For Smoking".
Very excited to sit here and "watch" this movie for the next hour. fuck yes.

Wednesday, November 5, 2008

so i've been really really sick over the last few days and in my limited waking hours i've been watching interviews with Tracy Morgan. He is, probably the funniest man to ever walk the earth. Dude is always talking about "getting females pregnant."
another of my favorite quotes is "Females are like the third rail on the train track. You respect that rail."
What?

my weekend
Friday:
-didn't go to class in the AM. Felt really sick with a gnarly sore throat.
-drove to Indy and went to Al-Fajr
-met up with Scott and went to Yats
-drove around and littered on people's yards who had McCain signs
-went to the show
-I drank six and a half red bulls
-went home and probably had a mild heart attack and almost died

Saturday
-India Garden
-drove back to Bloomington and watched Marseille at the Uptown Cafe
-sat in my room until BB King played
-King ruled but I started to feel really sick again
-rode home and went to bed

Sunday
-felt like I was going to die when I woke up
-somehow found the energy to walk to my car and drive to CVS to get tons of meds
-watched TV shows on the internet all day and night
-ate Amy's No Chicken Noodle Soup and drank lots of Gatorade

One of my favorite people doing a fantastic interview

we will not do what they want or do what they say no more

i was about to head out for lunch when i got an IM from mikey and we started to discuss how Bad Brains' Rock For Light is the best punk record ever. If you disagree with this then just stop reading here. all of the versions of the songs on that record are far superior to every other session they were recorded in. they're all faster than ever and raw as shit. plus it gets no better then Riot Squad.
While looking for the Riot Squad video from December 24th of 1982 (which you need to check out... now) I found this gem

fuck it, here you go. watch and enjoy

In other great news, the season opener for 30 Rock season three leaked onto Hulu. I almost didn't watch it, but I did. And I'll be watching Thursday night... as should you.

Monday, October 27, 2008

so yesterday i voted for my first presidential election. i'm awesome. yeah i'm not super pumped on either candidates (aside from the race of one). but if you aren't registered you're a fool, and if you are, go vote. i don't care for who, but i feel as though it's important to vote... but if you weren't going to vote but took MY advice to vote, you probably shouldn't vote, but should take this advice and not be my friend.
new 30 Rock on Thursday. Get pumped CUZ U NO I R.

Sunday, October 26, 2008

here is a list of funny things i saw this weekend:
-chris
-a swastika drawn on a sign
-"child abduction warning" sign
-skinheads buying boots
-star trek Season I DVD's for $90+
-30 Rock (season 2 so far is really nice)
- a new menu at one of my favorite restaurants

Thursday, October 23, 2008

So I've been into this band for about a year or so called Tinarawin from Mali. If you could imagine Carlos Santana coming from Mali/Niger, you've got the sound. It totally has that nomadic, stuck in the desert type sound (is that even a sound...? it is when you hear it).
Anyways, these dudes are really interesting and here is a short "documentary" clip on them. There is a second part and there is another one that is like 20 minutes long or something. Check it out at least for the music and the way these dudes live when they're not on tour.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008

and these are my two favorite commercials that are on TV

look at this chocolate dude's face the entire time the commercial runs. and the way he moves his hand. oh dang.
So I'm at a stand still on whether or not I should drop Arabic. I emailed my professor and asked him what I should do.
Watch this

Tuesday, October 21, 2008

So I got rid of my old blog. Don't go there.
This is my new one and it should be a lot less boring.

So, for your viewing enjoyment (go to about 35 seconds into the clip)
